The dental centres are arranged in 4 groups, each having its own brand that is positioned to serve a defined patient demographic. There is the Centre for Dental Implants, Greenwood Dental, Pacific Smiles Dental and NIB Dental Centres.
When an opportunity arose in a Westfield Shopping Centre, it was clear that this location favoured the Pacific Smiles Dental brand.
Among its many holdings, Westfield owns and operates a major regional shop ping centre at Tuggerah. Tuggerah is in the middle of the NSW Central Coast between Sydney and Newcastle. The shopping centre is strategically located on a main road adjacent to the Sydney-Newcastle expressway and the rail line.
Generally, retail space in shopping centres has only limited attraction to healthcare practitioners as leases are expensive, short-term in duration and after-hours access can be limited. In addition, healthcare services are by appointment while most shopping is opportunistic.
The attraction of shopping centres is the exposure to the enormous volume of passing trade, central location and easy parking.
The tenancy which was available had the advantage of facing directly on to the car park, so after hours access was not an issue, but the exposure to passing traffic was significant.
PSG has had most of its dental centres designed by Levitch Design Associates, so on being commissioned, LDA investigated and confirmed the space available was the right size, configuration and could be fitted out as a dental centre.
The space of 275 sqm would allow for 6 dental chairs, a generous sterilisation room, waiting room, administrative offices and staff room. The practitioners would have their own retreat for times when they needed to access the interne, discuss the day's cases or make private phone calls.
