Minister for indigenous and rural and regional health and services Warren Snowdon said the National Rural and Remote Health Infrastructure Program aimed to improve access to health services by improving health facilities in remote communities.
He said this was the second round of funding in the program.
"These grants will help communities establish new or refurbish existing healthcare facilities in rural and remote communities," he told reporters.
"It will retain community access to private rural health services and significantly make it easier for rural and remote communities to recruit and retain GPs and other health professionals."
Braidwood, NSW, will gain $551,000 for a new health centre.
Braidwood GP Amanda Barnard said this gave the opportunity to expand from a tiny portable building into a new purpose-built facility.
"There will be space for allied health professionals and really importantly, there is going to be space for our young students," she said.
"It's these young doctors who can train and work and start to experience what it's like being a doctor in a rural community who are really the future of our rural workforce."
