No job losses from the new Victoria ambulance service
26/06/2008 - The head of Victoria's new amalgamated ambulance service has guaranteed there will be no job losses when the new service begins on July 1. Ambulance Victoria (AV) chief executive Greg Sassella said all staff would be retained as the service continued to deal with increasing demand. "When you look at the growth that's occurring in ambulance and when you look at the demand growth for services, I think the resources that we've got are all going to be busy enough as it is," Sassella said on Wednesday. "So there is no suggestion that there'll be any staff redundancies, there won't be any job changes." The assurance comes as Premier John Brumby on Wednesday unveiled the first management team that will head the new statewide ambulance service, which amalgamates Rural Ambulance Victoria and the Metropolitan Ambulance Service (MAS). The amalgamation was announced in April as part of a $185.7 million revamp of the state's ambulance service. Sassella, currently chief executive of the MAS, will head the new ambulance service. Bendigo Health Group chair Marika McMahon will head the nine-member board, which comprises six women and four men. Source: AAP NewsWire
