Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) also known as Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) has a long history of effective treatments.

Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) also known as Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) has a long history of effective treatments.

LLLT works through the action of super luminous LEDs penetrating the subcutaneous tissue to energise the mitochondria in cells; they in turn produce more ATP (Adenosine-5'-triphosphate) which causes the cells to reproduce faster and function like younger cells.

This leads to improved micro-circulation of blood, plus causing more collagen and elastin to bundle between the cells. The result is reduced wrinkles and faster healing time. Skin will appear younger, plumper and healthier within 2 to 6 weeks.

630nm red-light LEDs

In recent times, Omnilux has sponsored a number of studies to show the value of 630nm for skin rejuvenation. In these cases, 630nm red light LEDs (light emitting diodes) were used as the light source rather than laser. LED has the advantage of low cost compared to laser, and has sufficient power when banked together as a single wavelength.

Attempts to place too many light frequencies on the one head could cause insufficient light density; on the other hand too much stimulation can cause the cells to overstimulate and collapse their energy once again. The best systems utilise individual interchangeable heads for each wavelength. These heads have an optimal number of diodes embedded to suit the treatment area.

Smartlux LED therapy device

The Smartlux LED therapy device has perfected the delivery of low-level light therapy by providing specific treatment heads for every relevant light wavelength. In addition, there is a 635/830nm combined head for rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, wound healing, pain relief and activation of ALA cream.

This is the ideal unit for an anti-ageing clinic. Two other important heads are the blue light for acne and the yellow head that addresses stretch marks.

Another significant advantage of Low Level Light Therapy is that it is not labour-intensive and clients can be placed under the light source for 20 minutes without the attendance of an operator.

Conclusion

Smartlux LED therapy enhances all clinics' other procedures. It improves skin before surgery and heals it afterwards. It makes good economic sense to have another hands-free modality to capture additional income.
