The Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA) is seeking the input of health professionals and others involved in palliative care around Australia to help develop two new online training modules.

AHHA Chief Executive Alison Verhoeven said the modules would complement the organisation's existing free online palliative care training, which has already seen 18,000 registrations across the county.

"This is a great opportunity for people involved in palliative care across Australia to tell us what they want to see included in the AHHA's online training, and help shape it to best suit their needs," Verhoeven said.

"We want to build these modules from the ground up, and are currently running a survey that asks the workforce to consider the roles they perform and what additional knowledge and training would most benefit them."

Best practice palliative care services

The new modules will be developed in partnership with Silver Chain Training to support best practice palliative care services for older people, mainly in the community setting, and will be launched in mid-2015. They will add to the four online training modules currently available.

"The existing courses have been highly popular and demonstrate the value in using technology innovatively," Verhoeven said. "We want to extend the reach of this training and provide access to more and more people in a way that hasn't been done before in palliative care, improving the way we deliver it along the way."

The new modules are based on the COMPAC Guidelines for community-based palliative aged care and, in developing them, the AHHA hopes to promote the delivery of better and more wide-reaching palliative care services in Australia.

Health professionals and others involved in palliative care are invited to complete the survey. It closes on 27 February 2015.
