Some people may not be able to control their body temperature when sleeping.
This may be due to a number of reasons that may include but are not limited to: reaction to medication they are taking, menopause, physical disability that prevents them from removing the bed blankets or even it could be a personal condition such as a form of Hyperhidrosis, etc.
The Pelican range of Thermo Regulating (TR) Material items may help some of these people. The TR Material was first developed to help astronauts in space maintain their body temperature. The material should help to 'keep cool people warm' and 'keep warm people cool'. The material allows heat from the body to escape and if the body is getting cold, it traps the warmth of the body. Different versions of the TR Material are now used for extreme snow sports clothing, some other specialised clothing and even in shoes to help people who have hot feet.
As the reason why people perspire can vary a lot, we cannot guarantee the TR Material will work for everyone. As it will be used for sleeping, due to Infection Control requirements, we regret that we are not able to accept the items back for credit if they do not work.
To Use: Place the Mattress Topper on the mattress. The four elastic corner straps are made long enough to fit very deep mattresses or mattresses that may have a Pressure Relive Overlay Mattress on top of the original mattress. Fit the elastic straps under the corners of the mattress and adjust the elastic using the buckle to make a secure fit. Do not over tighten the elastic straps so the elastic will be able to expand when the person gets into bed.
When fitting to a special Pressure Relief Mattress the TR Mattress Topper the material does not have any stretch properties, so the material may crease up under the patient. This creasing should be compensated by the Pressure Relief Mattress. The benefit of stopping perspiration may be more beneficial for the patient without comprising pressure care. After using, as normal good nursing practice, the patient's skin integrity should always be checked.
Warning for Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Home Care or other facilities: Be aware that this item may 'mask' the effects if someone does get an infection. Always check with a medical therapist that this item will be suitable.
Washing: Hand or Machine Wash up to 80°C. Air Dry in Shade or Cool Tumble Dry. We recommend using a Pelican Washing Bag, Item 205 when machine washing this item to give a longer life, as washing can destroy the material faster than using it, just like a normal bed sheet.
