A number of different appliance designs are currently in use for the treatment of snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
They all basically work by opening the vertical, posturing the mandible forward, altering tongue posture in an anterior direction, and/or supporting the soft palate in order to open the airway and keep the tongue forward.
The amount of opening and anterior repositioning provided by these appliances vary according to their design protocol.
Sleep appliances offer several advantages over other therapy options. They are inexpensive, non-invasive, reversible and well accepted by most patients.
