It can be used for children to adults 6 foot 6 inches (198cm.) tall. In any building over two storeys high, if there is a power failure or a fire, the electricity is turned off and the lifts or elevators then cannot be used. It is difficult and probably impossible, for people in wheelchairs or using Zimmer Frames or walking sticks, to walk down stairs.
The ResQme can be used in office buildings, theatres, libraries, hospitals, schools, etc. Even if a handicapped person does not work in the building, a handicapped visitor could be in the building when there is a power failure or fire, and they will not be able to use the stairs to evacuate.
When not in use, the ResQme can hang from a hook or be stored in a cupboard, ready to use when an evacuation is necessary.
The ResQme is slippery. Do not step into or stand on it. Keep it away from children.
Have regular training from a Manual Handling Advisor on how to use the ResQme as part of the emergency evacuation education. After training, with someone already on the floor, it should take about 1 minute 25 seconds to start pulling them to safety.
Cleaning: This product is designed as a single use item when used outdoors after evacuation, but it can be used many times for indoor training on carpet and the inside can be wiped clean with disinfectant. Always wipe and air dry after cleaning before storing. After outside use, replacement of the ResQme should be covered by insurance.
Other Pelican Products to assist with the Evacuation from Multi-Storey Buildings
Patient Rescue Sheet Extension Straps Item # 220E
The Extension Pulling Straps are easily lassoed onto the existing Pulling Straps that are on both ends of the Rescue Sheets. The Extension Pulling Straps will allow the person pulling to have a different pulling position or give more space for two people to pull a patient, without being too close to each other.
ResQSlide Board – to slide people out of chairs - Item # 220PSBK
It can be difficult when transferring someone out of their wheelchair or lounge chair to the ResQme. This should be discussed by your Manual Handling Advisor. Pelican make a ResQslide Board that can help in this situation. The ResQslide Board is placed under the sitting patient and they can then slide down directly onto the ResQme.
We highly recommend ordering with the Pillow, as this is a safety and comfort feature for the evacuee.
