The MYO appliances assist young children in the development of jaw, palate and facial structure.
They promote healthy development of teeth, lip and tongue strength and nose breathing. With parental help, they will overcome bad habits which are detrimental to overall health.
These include mouth breathing, tongue thrusting and poor chewing habits which result in weak muscle tone in the facial muscles and inferior-quality bone holding the teeth.
Use of MYO appliances from an early age will lessen and, in many cases, eliminate the need for your child ever to have braces or other painful and uncomfortable and expensive orthodontic treatment.

What is the MYO appliance?
Dr Kevin Bourke, an Australian dentist, invented the MYO as an oral appliance to improve the quality of the gum tissue. It was introduced to the dental profession at the biannual Australian Dental Convention in 1974 in Hobart.
Since then it has variously been called the "Munchie Chewer", the Perio Myo Pedic and the Myomunchee. Subsequent research in Japan and USA found that using the MYO had numerous oral health benefits.
Dentistry is increasingly about prevention rather than cure and MYO appliances were designed to prevent many common dental problems. These simple and inexpensive dental products are a vital part of preventative dental care and hygiene.
