Many Practice Management Systems (PMS) or PC/front desk software now have the ability to link to the HICAPS terminal.
This will result in even greater efficiencies for the practices as items are no longer required to be keyed in twice.

All HICAPS transactions are keyed in the health service provider's normal PMS.
The PMS sends the transaction details to the HICAPS terminal which will prompt for the health fund members' card to be swiped through the terminal.
Details already entered into the PMS are sent to the patient's health fund for authorisation.
Once the claim is authorised the PMS prints a statement for the patient detailing not only the benefit and the gap amount but also the consultation details.
