Supplier: InterfaceFLOR
30 January, 2012

When the Wakefield Street Dental Clinic needed an update to its interiors, the Designer, Sarah Gamtcheff from Studio Tonic, chose InterfaceFLOR carpet tiles for their design qualities and durability.

  • Project: Wakefield Street Dental Clinic, South Australia
  • Assignment: To provide a fast, modern update that would excel in both design aesthetics and durability.
  • Products: 1968 Collection:
  • Bull Ring – Brown and Tan
  • New Road – Brown and Tan
  • Penny Lane – Brown and Tan

"We wanted to use carpet tiles for their high wear factor ... that way they would last and maintain their appearance for longer," said Sarah. "The InterfaceFLOR Quick Ship range offered us an exciting variety of modern looks and colours with a quick turn around, which was important to us."

The client brief requested high quality finishes that would provide a modern accent while still embracing the age and features of the historic building. Sarah was attracted to InterfaceFLOR’s 1968 Collection as it gave her an opportunity to highlight the hallway, which served as the main thoroughfare for the practice, as well as a period feature of the building.

"The 1m x 1m Bull Ring pattern provided a sense of scale in the long corridor space," she explained. "We also chose the New Road pattern for the waiting area which services many pediatric patients for its playful aesthetic."

The design has received a positive response from all patients. Children in particular have been using the design
as a playing tool to jump from spot to spot and the warmth of the colour is appreciated by all ages.

In addition to design, the carpet tiles offered superior acoustic advantages and underfoot comfort – a key
expectation of the design team in this type of environment. These elements not only benefit the staff, but make the overall look and feel more welcoming for the patients. "We wanted to make a trip to the dentist as comfortable as it
possibly could be."

Designed for health and wellbeing, with a sense of practicality in mind, the new flooring at Wakefield Street Dental Clinic not only fits the brief, it has surpassed all expectations.
