Pelican Manufacturing - This turning disc is helpful when transferring a patient to or from a wheelchair to a chair/toilet/commode/bed/etc.This turning disc is helpful when transferring a patient to or from a wheelchair to a chair/toilet/commode/bed/etc. The outer discs are made from plastic so it can be used in a bathroom and should not distort if put on a wet floor, but be careful the inside bearings do not get wet. To Use the Handi Turn : Prepare before you transfer! Suggested method: Once the patient is standing, the nurse stands in front of the patient, facing the direction of the turn, using their hands to keep the patient steady. When ready to turn, for example, to the patient’s left, the nurse places the side of the left foot onto the front edge of the Handi-Turn and swivels the Handi-Turn around with their left foot. It is easy to continue turning or stop – the nurse’s foot can be used as a brake by keeping the inside of the foot on the Handi-Turn and the outside of the foot and the heel on the floor. If turning the patient towards the patient’s right, the nurse uses their right foot to turn the Handi-Turn. You may prefer to use alternative feet if you are ‘left legged’. Some Carers prefer to put a foot in the middle of the Handi-Turn with the patients feet either side of the carers foot. The carer then uses their foot to turn the Handi-Turn. We recommend the nursing staff practice using the Handi-Turn to gain confidence before transferring a patient. To service the Handi-Turn, the two Allen screws can be undone, so you can completely dissemble the Handi-Turn for cleaning by wiping with disinfectant. An alternative product to the Handi-Turn is the Handi-Soft Turn, item 519S. This is also used for turning patients but is made from foam and padded velour. This is designed for patients to sit on, when getting in and out of cars, beds or chairs, but can also be used for standing turns. The Handi Turn is sometimes referred to as a 'Swivel Board' or 'Turnign Disk'. Consult your Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist or Back Care Specialist when using Manual Handling Products. Washing: Wipe clean with disinfectant.
What's the difference between the 519 and the 519S? The 519 is a hard version for standing on. The 519S is a soft version for sitting on. Why have two sizes? We originally only had the 32cm diameter version. A few people asked for a slightly larger diameter so we now keep stock of both sizes. For most people the standard 32cm diameter size should be fine.
