It's a time when anything is possible... when dreams can become reality and when everything can irrevocably change for the better if you simply allow it to. It's a time when you can push your boundaries and take a chance on yourself and your abilities. It is an opportunity to show the world all you can be and make a statement about your personal style and beliefs.
Great change, however, often requires a catalyst and for Dr Mark Casiglia, it may have been nothing more than the desire to get out of the rent trap and practice in premises he owned that initiated the journey that resulted in Apple Dental, a magnificent purpose-built practice and residence in the Sydney suburb of Lane Cove.
"I've been practising in Lane Cove for the past 15 years:' Dr Casiglia said, "but the two previous locations I was at were both set-up in rented premises. My parents drummed into me from an early age that it's best to own your own premises so that has very much been on my mind for a long time.
"My old practice is just around the corner from the new one and I used to drive past this property often. The lease on that premises, which I shared with another dental practice which remains there today, was up in 2007. I'd decided well before that that I wouldn't renew and would look for somewhere to buy.
"I saw the site for the new practice was up for sale in late 2003. The house on the property at the time was an unremarkable 1950's red brick home. It immediately struck me as being ideal and I bought it for $5,000 over the price it was listed for. I didn't want to play games with the real estate agent because I simply wasn't prepared to lose it.
"The location is just perfect. It couldn't have gotten any better than this and I paid what was asked and more. I then had the first meeting with Levitch Design Associates [LDA] to commence the design process even before we settled I didn't call anyone else. I just wanted to go straight to the top to get the result I wanted."
