Premier Barry O'Farrell says the state government has learned from the tragic fire at Quakers Hill Nursing Home in 2011 and has made the installation of sprinklers mandatory in all retirement homes.

O'Farrell and federal Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews re-opened the new $20 million home at Hambledon Road in late February.

"As we remember those 11 residents who lost their lives, it's comforting to know much has been done since to improve safety in the state's aged care facilities," he said.
