This diamond blade cuts only with the middle edge of the blade exposed to tissue. The distal part is blunt to avoid damage of the iris and lens.
The diamond knife also allows you to cut without crushing, as with scissors. A vertical cut is possible in both the recipient and donor cornea, which allows perfect apposition of tissue, with the use of the Hanna trephine system and the arti- ficial anterior chamber.
Using the Barron trephine on the recipient, you are able to cut the anterior two thirds with the trephine blade and the posterior third with the diamond blade.
