Case Study: Occupational Therapist, Brisbane, QLD

Client is a 12 year old girl with cerebral palsy since birth, living with her parent primarily, with respite care two days per week.

The parents were concerned as to how their daughter would react to a new bath, as change was often resisted, and as to how she would be able to get in and out of the bath in light of her difficulty with certain movement.

She was introduced to the bath which she received with caution. The initial attempts at getting in and out were awkward and limited assistance was required.

After 6 weeks the parents reported that their daughter loved having a bath, particularly playing with the spa bubbles. It took about two weeks of bathing daily for her to work out the best way to get in and out and by the third week it was a fluid action.

Model used was Windsor ACCESS with left door and hydrotherapy spa system
