• The cleanroom designation example KR 20 R1000 Z390 CR specifies Max. Payload 20 kg, Reach 1000mm and Z-stroke 390mm.

Assembly process forces

• Supports assembly tasks requiring process forces in the Z-direction. These forces are not comparable with flange loads.

Flanges and additional loads

• Screw ends act as mounting flanges. Actuators can be designed around them, or optional end flanges can provide ISO-standardised connection dimensions.
• Additional-load mounting holes below the wrist accommodate components or application equipment close to the end effector.
• Supplementary attachments support application-specific extensions or cable routing. An angle flange can position equipment beside the arm. Dimensions differ between robot types.

Calibration and interfaces

• Calibration can be performed manually by visually matching reference markers or with tools using EMD-Pins. Reference positions cover A1, A2 and A3 / A4, with additional reference marks.
• Interface A1, at the rear of the base frame, provides the general robot connection. Interface A2 is on the central arm. Both transfer energy and signals between robot, controller and end effectors; connectors vary by robot type.
• Additional axes, such as linear tracks, connect directly at the base flange without an additional cable connection to the controller or SPS.
• The additional-axis connector also supports a conveyor resolver connection for real-time applications.

Brake release and energy supply

• The arm-interface brake release button allows manipulator movement while the controller is completely powered on and the robot system is disabled. Secure the payload before pressing the button, as the load on the screw can drop.
• End-effector media can be routed internally through the screw, internally alongside through an energy chain, or externally through an energy chain, at arm or screw level. Routing considerations include compactness, no hollow screw, reduced cable stress, prototype setups and complex setups including air.
• IGUS energy supplies can be configured online. Configurations include A1 – A3, 180°; A2 – A3, 180°; and A1 – A3, 135°. A 90° configuration is not offered.

Application software

• KUKA.VisionTech: 2D object recognition, quality control, code recognition and optical character recognition (OCR).
• KUKA.PickControl: coordinates and controls multiple robots for packaging; developed for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).
• KUKA.PLC mxAutomation: programs and operates robot functions within a familiar PLC control environment, with different libraries and programming languages supported.
• KUKA.ConveyorTech: automatically adapts robot actions to assembly-line or conveyor-belt motion.

• Electronics capabilities include easy, standardised programming, simulation of new applications, optimised investment costs, fast axis movement, accuracy up to +/-0,02mm, process forces up to 600N, ESD certification, and CE and NRTL certification.
• Electronics examples include solar-concentrator assembly with optical inspection, passive cleaning and pick & place using KR 6 R700 Z200-2; PCBA gluing using KR 6 R500 Z200-2; and screw driving in motion with conveyor synchronisation.
• Battery examples include round-cell handling for module assembly using KR 12 R650 Z340 CR and battery-cell handling using KR 20 R1000 Z450.
• Hygienic food-industry features include all lubricants NSF H1, ISO 21469 certified lubricants, a hardcover spindle cover, protection class IP54, operating temperatures 0 – 45 °C, best-in-class axis speeds and KUKA.PickControl.
